Somatic Movement and Somatic Experiencing

Healing through movement and connecting to the body
Welcome!
We are embodied beings, meaning that our body is part of our life experience since the day we were born. However, especially in western societies, we grow up having a big disconnection to our bodies. We are taught not to trust our intution, rather value rationality and external sources of knowledge instead.
Connecting to our body and giving to the body the attention that deserves, will help us understand the deeper truths behind our experiences and identify our core needs.
When we feel anxious- for example- we might feel butterflies in our stomach, or if we have a heart break we feel pain in the middle of our chest. All these responses are experienced through the body.
Understanding and practicing how to get in touch with our innate bodily intelligence is our first step towards our healing journey back to our authentic self.
"Somatics" is a field of body-mind-spirit practices that honor and value our bodily wisdom, intuition and our capacity for self healing.
The word "Soma" is a Greek word, referred as the "living body".
Somatic Movement practices include skilled touch, movement, integration through artwork and compassionate dialogue to help people of all ages and abilities to relieve stress, find enhanced expressiveness and balance all aspects of their body and soul.
SM draws knowledge from different theoretical frameworks such as Somatics, psychology, philosophy, anatomy, neuroscience, sensorimotor and developmental movement.
The structure of a Somatic Movement session with me includes the following:
1. Arriving and check in: Verbal exchange on how you're feeling at the moment, or what was happening in the past few days that might have had an impact on the way you feel.
2. Warm up: We bring the body into focus through conscious breath, reconnecting to our hearts, sensing gravity, exploring bodily sensations through gentle self massage etc
3. Development: Guided movement exercises or improvisational movement explorations are used to further understand and explore what has been emerging during the session and how your thoughts and feeling are represented in your body.
4. Check out: At the end of the session, we discuss and invite personal integration, through reflection, expressivity and creativity making your experience deeper and how it is related to your life.
SM does not involve psychotherapeutic interventions such as clinical diagnoses and evaluations, talk therapy, prognoses, or related treatment plans.

Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing is an innovative embodiment-centered therapeutic approach to trauma resolution designed to alleviate physical, emotional, and mental shock.
It aids in reducing discomfort and unease, rejuvenating your self-awareness, curiosity for life, capacity for affection, and fostering a calm assurance in daily living.
This method, ingeniously simple yet potent, collaborates with the body's inherent self-regulatory mechanisms.
How does Somatic Experiencing work?
In nature, wild creatures often face mortal threats without succumbing to trauma. Their intense survival energy, utilized for fighting or fleeing, is naturally released and dissipated after the danger subsides. This primal discharging mechanism enables animals to swiftly recover without becoming overwhelmed.
Similarly, humans possess the capability to overcome overwhelming events. However, our rational minds frequently oppose the body's instinctual responses, leading to the entrapment of immense fight-or-flight energy in our nervous system, which can manifest as symptoms immediately or even years later.
By engaging in SE's guided introspective approach, one can potentially renegotiate stored traumatic experiences within the body, profoundly influencing the recovery process and placing past experiences in their proper perspective.
